Brendan Rodgers should now make buying a new goalkeeper his main priority in the January transfer window, after Craig Gordon’s blunder in Celtic’s match against Bayern Munich last night.

Celtic played brilliantly against the German champions yesterday, but they were let down by a calamitous defensive error.

Although Gordon was not totally to blame, with Dedryck Boyata also fail to cover himself in glory, the Scottish goalkeeper’s decision to rush out was a poor one.

And Celtic must seriously consider upgrading Gordon, if they want to improve.

Although Gordon is a good shot stopper, and he is perfectly capable of performing in the Scottish Premiership, he has shown that on the European stage he can sometimes be found wanting.

And if Celtic really want to start making progress in Europe then finding a more reliable custodian will be vital.

Gordon has been a good servant for the Bhoys, but Rodgers now needs to be ruthless – and he should already be making plans to find a new number one when the transfer window reopens.
