Callum McGregor has certainly been one of Celtic’s best players this term.

Brendan Rodgers has suggested that Callum McGregor tends to end up being the best player on the pitch every week regardless of which position he is playing in, in comments reported by the Daily Record.
McGregor has enjoyed another remarkable season. After a decent but slightly underwhelming spell before Rodgers’ arrival, the midfielder has elevated his game significantly and is now one of the first names on the teamsheet.
And it does not seem to matter where on the teamsheet his name appears. McGregor seems to have featured in most spots in the side, including left-back.
And Rodgers made a claim about McGregor’s versatility, suggesting that it is a sign that he is one of the best around.

“The simplicity of Callum’s game is all based on his view of the game. The really gifted players have a view on every position on the pitch,” he said, as reported by the Daily Record. “I can play Callum as a left-back moving inside, I can play him as a No.10 and he gets a goal.
“I can play him deeper as a playmaker and he can play on the left, coming in to be the extra man in midfield. No matter where he plays he ends up being the best player on the pitch.”

It is easy to forget that McGregor was coming in for criticism and being overshadowed before Rodgers started to bring the best out of him. He could quite easily be considered the best midfielder in the Scottish Premiership right now.
And that makes Celtic agreeing a contract extension with McGregor earlier in the season (via BBC Sport) look like a masterstroke. It would be no surprise if the 25-year-old was attracting Premier League attention – but now, only a truly eye-watering offer may be enough to convince Celtic to allow him to leave Parkhead.
