Glasgow Rangers recently announced that they had signed Steven Davis on loan for the rest of the season.

Brendan Rodgers has told Sky Sports News (broadcast on 09/01 from 11:30 pm) that he has always been a big fan of Rangers loanee Steven Davis and has previously tried to sign the midfielder.

Davis rejoined the Gers this month on a loan deal that is set to run until the end of the campaign. It appears to be a coup for Steven Gerrard’s side, with the Northern Ireland international spending much of his time away from the club proving to be a key player at Southampton.

His arrival, along with that of Jermain Defoe, will certainly leave plenty of Rangers supporters believing that they can push Celtic in the title race. And even Rodgers has admitted that he has always been impressed by the midfielder, and wanted to bring him to Swansea one year before he left the Gers in 2012.

“Steven, I’ve known for many years. Obviously a Northern Ireland boy,” he told Sky Sports.

“I actually wanted to sign Steven. It was when I was at Swansea when we got promoted to the Premier League.

“I always felt he was a very underrated footballer. He can play the game quickly, got a great view of the game. Very good professional, always available, so he was a player that I really, really liked so Rangers have got a good player there.”

It does appear that Rangers have completed a very good piece of business to get Davis into their side, and there can surely be no doubt that they have, so far, enjoyed a fantastic January window.

And following their victory in the Old Firm game that took place before the winter break, Gerrard’s men appear to have a lot of mometum heading into the second-half of the season.
