Brendan Rodgers’ appointment has created great excitement around Celtic.
New Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has told Celtic Research’s Soundcloud account that he will look to appoint someone with experience of Scottish football to his backroom staff at Parkhead.
Rodgers has never managed in Scotland before and he admits that he does not have an encyclopaedic knowledge of the country’s football.
However, he intends to bring in a coach with vast experience of the Scottish Premiership, who he can bounce ideas off.
“I’ll definitely have to have that [someone with experience of Scottish football] amongst my backroom staff,” he said, during an informal discussion with supporters.
“I have a couple of guys who worked closely with me at Swansea and other clubs, but I’d be lying if I said I knew everything about Scottish football.”
Rodgers is yet to put together his backroom staff at Celtic, but it is expected that he will have free reign to pick who he wants to join him at the Bhoys.
Rodgers is expected to bring Reading coach Chris Davies, who he worked with at Liverpool and Swansea, with him to Celtic (Daily Record).
Rodgers is also tipped to keep hold of goalkeeping coach Stevie Woods and John Kennedy, who were part of Ronny Deila’s backroom team.
Rodgers’ appointment at Celtic has created great excitement around Parkhead, and he is expected to be an upgrade on Deila.
Rodgers’s first task will be to ensure that Celtic win their sixth Scottish Premiership title in succession, but he will also be judged on the Glasgow side’s performance in European competition.
