Celtic took the spoils from the first Old Firm game of the season as they beat Rangers 2-0 at Ibrox.

Brendan Rodgers has told Celtic’s official website that Leigh Griffiths’ goal in Celtic’s win over Rangers was an outstanding finish and suggested that his belief is a key reason for his success.
Griffiths has made a solid start to the season, and played a crucial role in helping the Hoops win the first Old Firm game of the campaign as they won 2-0 at Ibrox to extend their unbeaten domestic run and put themselves five points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

It was Griffiths was bagged the Bhoys’ second as he latched onto a wonderful pass from Patrick Roberts to coolly slot the ball past Wes Foderingham to put the game beyond doubt following Tom Rogic’s opener.
And after the game, Rodgers heaped praise upon the 27-year-old for his performance against the Gers and the confidence he possesses every time he steps onto the pitch.

“Leigh’s movement was always a threat, he drags central defenders out of positions and his finish for the goal was outstanding,” he told the club’s official website.
“What he’s brilliant at is that he believes he can score in every game, no matter the level he’s playing at.”
That belief will be especially valuable when Celtic take on Anderlecht in the Champions League in midweek as the Hoops will know just how important the two games against the Belgian side are.
With Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich also in the group, it would not be a surprise if Celtic and Anderlecht are left battling for third, so picking up a positive result on Wednesday could be a massive positive for Brendan Rodgers’ men.
