Rivaldo Coetzee has been linked with Celtic recently and Brendan Rodgers could certainly do with further options at centre half.
It seems increasingly likely that Rivaldo Coetzee will be a Celtic player before the transfer window shuts at the end of this month.
The South African centre-back, who has won 22 caps for his country at just 20 years of age, has piqued the interest of the Scottish champions following a series of impressive performances for Ajax Cape Town, as reported by The Scotsman.
Young, talented and blessed with superb technical ability, Coetzee appears a perfect fit for Rodgers’ Celtic and would add some much needed cover at the back with both Erik Sviatchenko and Dedryck Boyata struggling with injuries.
And, when asked about Celtic’s interest in Coetzee, Rodgers did little to dampen the speculation.
“It’s really about the availability of a player,” the Northern Irishman told reporters about the Bafana Bafana defender, as reported by Sport24.
“We’ll look to bring in quality if it becomes available. It’s something we have been working towards over the course of the last few weeks.”
The Daily Record report that Coetzee could be available for as little as £750,000 despite the fact his contract does not expire until the summer of 2019. Therefore, he is comfortably within Celtic’s price range.
Despite winning all three domestic trophies last season, The Hoops have aimed to improve their already talented squad in the off season, landing highly-rated central midfield duo Olivier Ntcham and Kundai Benyu from Manchester City and Ipswich Town respectively.
Jonny Hayes has also arrived at Parkhead after a fine season with Scottish Premiership runners-up Aberdeen.
