Celtic rejected offers from Chelsea for Craig Gordon during the January transfer window.

Brendan Rodgers has told the Daily Record that he has reassured Craig Gordon of his importance to Celtic.

Gordon was linked with a move to Chelsea towards the end of the January transfer window.

Chelsea saw Gordon as a potential replacement for Asmir Begovic, and wanted him to become their number two.

However, Celtic rejected all of the bids for the Scottish international as Rodgers sees him as a huge part of the Bhoys’ future.

“I have reassured him he is a massive part of what I am doing here. You see the level of his game, his composure, his quality,” Rodgers said.

“I’m very hopeful that soon we will tie him down for longer here. He is a huge player in relation to how I want the team to operate.”

When Rodgers first arrived at Celtic he appeared to have some doubts over Gordon, and brought in Dorus De Vries.

However, the 34-year-old forced his way back into Celtic’s team near the start of the season, and has not looked back.

Gordon has been one of Celtic’s star performers this campaign, as Rodgers’ side have built up a 25 point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

Gordon started for Celtic last night, and kept a clean-sheet, as Rodgers’ side won 1-0 against Aberdeen.
