This week has seen Celtic being linked with a move for Reading centre-back Liam Moore. It has been reported by the Daily Record that Moore is Rodgers’ main January transfer target – as he looks to add some depth to his defensive areas.

Moore has been in sensational form for Reading since he made his move from Leicester City in 2016. At the Madejski Stadium they are clear – Moore is not for sale. But with the eventual lure of Champions League football it will be tough for the Berkshire side to convince Moore not to make the move to Glasgow.

For Rodgers, stealing away Reading’s star attraction would bring with it an extra satisfaction. Rodgers, who had previously played for the Royals and been their academy director was appointed manager of the club in 2009. Rodgers has a lot of time for Reading but the way his managerial spell ended will certainly irk him. He has since gone on to have success with Swansea City, Liverpool and now at Celtic so will certainly feel he’s proved a point to the Berkshire club.

But taking away who is generally considered to be their best player? That might make a wry smile lurk on the Celtic manager’s face.
