Celtic travel to Ibrox on Saturday for an Old Firm clash with their bitter local rivals.
Brendan Rodgers has told The Scotsman that the “outstanding” Tom Rogic will miss Celtic’s visit to Rangers on Saturday.
Both Old Firm rivals renew hostilities at Ibrox this weekend as Rangers look to avenge two defeats this season and throw themselves the slimmest of lifelines in a title race which, to be fair, may actually be finished already.
Victory would see the second-placed Gers move to within 13 points of the table-topping Bhoys, who are yet to lose a Scottish Premiership game this season – they have won 18 of their 19 league outings.
Rangers lost 5-1 when the sides met at Parkhead in September, before only losing 1-0 in a League Cup semi-final at Hampden Park but it was another very one-sided affair, settled by Moussa Dembele’s last-minute winner.
But one positive for Mark Warburton’s side could come in the form of an injury, with Rodgers telling The Scotsman that his Australian midfielder will miss the visit to Ibrox through injury.
“Rogic won’t make the game on Saturday,” said the Northern Irishman, who replaced Ronny Deila last summer.
“That’s disappointing for him as he’s been outstanding, but it’s about the collective and we will be ready.
“Tom will be back after the mid-season break. It’s not a long-term injury.”
The 24-year-old has netted nine times for Celtic this season and Rodgers is spot-on – he has been outstanding, but the Hoops could and probably should still have enough to cope without him.
