Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has hailed Scott Brown’s performance in the win over Rangers, speaking to the club’s official website.

The Scottish champions hosted their fierce rivals at Celtic Park on Saturday afternoon, the first meeting between the two sides in the league in four years.

Much of the build-up to the game had been on Brown coming up against Joey Barton, with the latter claiming the Hoops captain was not in his league.

It proved to be a happy afternoon for Brown though as he led his side to a comprehensive 5-1 win and his manager says he did his talking on the pitch.

“With Scotty, you saw his performance: Scott Brown does his talking on the field,” he told the club’s official website.

“He leads the team. He’s a very respectful guy. He bossed the game in the middle of the field and showed his power and strength and his leadership qualities.”

Brown will certainly be delighted with the performance he managed to put in in this victory, largely because it put Barton in his place somewhat.

The Scot has remained largely quiet while the Rangers midfielder has shared his opinions and did indeed let his football do the talking instead.

He must now use this performance as a platform to continue improving and Rodgers will be hoping he has plenty more talking on the pitch to do across the season.
