Brendan Rodgers has hailed midfielder Scott Brown as a top player and a real leader after Celtic’s 5-1 win over Rangers at Ibrox in the Old Firm derby.

Scott Sinclair gave the visitors an early lead through penalty. In the 18th minute of the match, Leigh Griffiths scored an absolute stunner to make it 2-0.

Celtic squandered abundance of chances and they could have easily scored two to three more goals before half time.

After the break, Callum McGregor extended Celtic’s lead in the 52nd minute.

Dedryck Boyata headed in from Griffiths’ swirling free-kick to kill off any chances of a Rangers fightback.

Kenny Miller pulled one back for the hosts, but Mikael Lustig put the icing in the cake and killed the tie completely with the fifth goal for his side.

After the match Rodgers said that the Celtic players were tactically superb and they were ‘sensational’ when they had the ball in possession.

Scott Brown was outstanding during the game, and Rodgers was quick to applaud his efforts:

This was a morale boosting victory for Celtic, but the result is only a reflection of the gulf of class between the two sides.

Celtic, the Scottish champions, are still in the hunt for a treble, and have taken their unbeaten domestic run to 42 games.
