Brendan Rodgers has told The Glasgow Evening Times that he is delighted with Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney.

The 19-year-old has emerged as one of Britain’s hottest young prospects since breaking into the Celtic side under Ronny Deila less than a year ago.

Since then, the teenager has been a mainstay for the Hoops and has become a regular for Scotland.

The Sun reported last week that Arsenal and Manchester City were monitoring him, but Rodgers warns that he still has to improve in a number of areas.

Nevertheless, the Northern Irish manager is chuffed to bits with the Bhoys star.

“For 19 years of age, to play with that consistency at this club, at this time, is fantastic,” he told The Glasgow Evening Times.

“He’s a true Celtic supporter, who has come in out the stands and come through the Academy and he’s now living his dream playing in the first-team.

“There is lots of improvement to come from him but his starting point as a young player and his mentality is right up there.

“I’m delighted with Kieran and we will keep pushing him to make him the very best he can be.”

Celtic are top of the Scottish Premiership and so far it seems like a foregone conclusion that Rodgers will mark his first season in charge by winning the title, which would be the club’s sixth successive top-flight crown.

Rodgers’s boys resume the domestic calendar on Saturday by welcoming Motherwell to Parkhead.
