Celtic thrashed Ross County 4-0 last night, and Brendan Rodgers paid tribute to the 30-year-old.
Brendan Rodgers has told Celtic’s official website that Emilio Izaguirre, among others, was “outstanding” in Wednesday’s 4-0 win at Ross County.
The Northern Irishman named a very under-strength XI for the trip to Victoria Park last night, but the Hoops still had more than enough quality to see off County.
The Honduras international was one of several fringe inclusions, along with Cristian Gamboa, Liam Henderson and Ryan Christie, who had four Scottish Premiership starts between them since the season kicked off in the first week of August.
Izaguirre has been particiulary anonymous due to Kieran Tierney’s prominence and last night marked the 30-year-old left-back’s first Premiership start of the campaign.
And Rodgers was quick to highlight his performance afterwards.
“Emilio and guys like that haven’t played for a long time and I thought they were outstanding but it was a tough game,” he told Celtic’s website.
The win speaks volumes for the strength of Celtic’s squad.
Rodgers made eight changes from Sunday’s 1-0 win over Rangers and even his second string was still far too good for Ross County last night.
The Bhoys are seven points clear of second-placed Aberdeen in the Premiership – and they have a game in hand. It seems almost certain that they will win the league.
