Celtic have a number of options in their squad for defensive positions.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that defender Jack Hendry has had some challenging moments so far for the Scottish giants, but is excited to see him develop his game.

The 23-year-old has had a mixed start to his Bhoys career since he joined in January and is still trying to consolidate his position in the starting XI as a permanent feature.

He is a 6ft 3in centre-back that is confident in possession, but has been caught out defensively on several occasions and lacks experience.

Henry has racked up 10 appearances across all competitions so far this season, but does have fierce competition for places from teammates such as Dedryck Boyata, Kristoffer Ajer and Filip Benkovic.

Rodgers has explained that the Scottish defender has already had obstacles with Celtic and admires the way he is facing them.

“Jack Hendry has come into a huge club and seen the demands. He never shirks from it. He’s had some challenging games but he always puts himself out there. A great attitude and I’m looking forward to seeing him develop over the next few years,” Rodgers said, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.

Henry certainly has work to do if he wants to win over the entire Celtic fanbase, but a busy fixture list means he is likely to get opportunities in the next few weeks.

Rodgers’ side host Aberdeen in the league on Saturday and the defender could send out a real statement if he gets the chance to impress in that game.
