Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has told The Daily Record that he expects Charly Musonda to make an impact for the club next season.

The former Liverpool and Swansea City boss has also suggested that there is no immediate pressure on the Chelsea-owned youngster to succeed at Celtic.

The 21-year-old, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger and earns £520,000 per year as salary according to Spotrac.com, joined the Hoops on an 18-month loan deal from Premier League giants Chelsea in the January transfer window.

Charly Musonda of Chelsea shoots during the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Chelsea at Selhurst Park on October 14, 2017 in London, England.

Rodgers told The Daily Record about Musonda: “It’s a different type of loan for Charly compared to when he went to Spain and had to succeed straight away.

“Here he has 18 months to settle in, find the way of working and realising the pressures of a big club.”

“He’ll make some appearances from when he arrived in January to the
end of this season,” added Rodgers. ”Then I think next season will be a big one for him to make his mark.”

Charly Musonda of Celtic is seen during the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Heart of Midlothian at Celtic Park on January 30, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Stance makes sense

Musonda has made just four appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Celtic since his January loan switch from Chelsea.

Celtic fans must have been wondering why the youngster has not played well, and Rodgers’s aforementioned comments provide a solid explanation.

The Glasgow giants are doing well without the Belgian playing regularly, and it is important that the youngster is gradually embedded into the team.

What is crucial is that the Belgium Under-21 international is ready for the Champions League qualifiers.
