Brendan Rodgers drops hint about Celtic’s transfer plans over the rest of the transfer window

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers wants to trim his squad at Parkhead.

Brendan Rodgers has told the Telegraph that Celtic will still loan out their fringe players, despite the departure of Moussa Dembele becoming a real possibility.

Lyon have come in for Dembele at this late stage of the transfer window, with fears that the French forward could leave Parkhead rising.

Rodgers has admitted he doesn’t want to lose Dembele, who has become a key player for Celtic.

However, the potential departure of the forward, does not mean that Rodgers no longer wants to trim his squad.

He said: “There are going to be players going out on loan. Probably young players who will go and get experience. When I came in here, I felt before I touched a ball that it was too big [the squad] – one, in order for competition and two, for spirit.

“It’s very difficult when you’ve got 29 players plus goalkeepers and the squad is round about that just now, so naturally, it’s the same idea.It’s too big. It’s something I’m sure will change over the next few days.”

Among those players likely to leave Celtic is Ryan Christie, who appears to have limited first-team chances under Rodgers this term.

Christie has shown flashes of quality out on loan previously, but still seems some way away from Celtic’s first-team.

It is fair to say that this season has not gone to plan for the Bhoys so far, and they are under pressure to get back to their best sooner rather than later.

Celtic are in action again tonight, when they take on FK Suduva in the Europa League.
