Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic reportedly wanted John McGinn, but Aston Villa signed the midfielder from Hibernian.
McGinn has moved to Villa in the Championship in England from Scottish Premiership club Hibernian in the summer transfer window.
According to The Times, the Villans paid Hibernian a transfer fee of £2.75 million plus add-ons in order to secure the services of the Scotland international midfielder.
Scottish Premiership giants Celtic wanted to sign McGinn from Hibernian in the summer transfer window, according to BBC Sport.
Celtic manager Rodgers has admitted that he is disappointed to have missed out on the 23-year-old Scotland international midfielder.
Rodgers told The Glasgow Evening Times about McGinn: “I spoke to John at length [on Wednesday]. He was already gone. It was just to wish him all the very best.
“It was a great move for him, but disappointment for us of course, especially when he is a lifelong Celtic supporter.
“But he is joining another illustrious club with a great history and wonderful training facilities and a good manager and an opportunity to go play in England.
“He has developed a lot these last couple of years. He is a good age, a prime age at 23 and I wish him all the very best.”
Moving on
McGinn would have been a very good signing for Celtic, especially in the long run, as the Scotland international is only 23 years of age and is still developing as a footballer.
However, Celtic’s loss is Villa’s gain, and the Villa Park faithful should be confident of the 23-year-old succeeding for the Villans this season.
