Brendan Rodgers’ return to the Premier League would have unfortunately reminded a lot of Liverpool supporters about their title collapse under his stewardship five years ago.

The Northern Irishman was announced as the new Leicester City manager on their official Twitter account on Tuesday after he made the surprise decision to leave Celtic in an abrupt manner despite chasing the treble-treble.

It is fair to say that he will be looking to make his mark on the Foxes, who are desperately craving attacking and forward-thinking football.

Come the summer, it wouldn’t surprise many if Rodgers raided his old club and tried to snap up the services of Daniel Sturridge, whose career has stagnated beyond belief since his departure.

If anyone can add much-needed fuel to the 29-year-old’s career then it could be Rodgers because the Liverpool ace would thrive in his system and be a perfect fit for a naturally counter-attacking Leicester side.

During that infamous 2013/14 Premier League season when the Reds lost the title in a dramatic fashion, Sturridge scored an incredible 22 goals from his 29 league games [trannsfermarkt].

Since then, he has only managed to find the back of the net on 19 occasions in the league, which perhaps is the biggest indicator as to how much he has fallen, with injuries, lack of game time and form all playing a part.

But not many would argue that the £130k-a-week [Sportac] Reds player would suit Leicester’s style as he could be one of the statement signings the club’s fans will be looking for when the summer transfer window officially opens.

While Sturridge’s career at Anfield started off smoothly, it is fair to say that it is now turning into a nightmare and he needs something or someone to get him back to his best.
