Defender Kolo Toure looks set to join Celtic this weekend.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that defender Kolo Toure should complete his move to Glasgow on Sunday – but is unlikely to face Astana on Wednesday.
The Bhoys took on Leicester City in the International Champions Cup this evening, and after Riyad Mahrez had opened the scoring for the Premier League champions, Celtic youngster Eoghan O’Connell levelled the scores up and sent the game into penalties.
At 5-5 in the penalty shoot-out, James Forrest missed for Celtic, leaving Daniel Amartey to hand Leicester the win – but manager Rodgers will be proud of the overall performance from his players.
The game came after hours of speculation surrounding a potential new signing for Celtic, with BBC Sport reporting that Kolo Toure was undergoing a medical with the club.
The 35-year-old is a free agent having been released by Liverpool, and a reunion with Rodgers – the manager who signed him for Liverpool back in the summer of 2013 – could now be on the cards.
After Celtic’s defeat to Leicester, Rodgers was asked about the situation, and confirmed to the club’s official Twitter account that a deal to sign Toure should be completed on Sunday.
Rodgers went on to state that Toure’s experience will be vital for the club’s young players, and was outstanding in big games during their time together at Liverpool.
However, Rodgers added that the two-time Premier League winner is unlikely to feature against Astana in the Champions League on Wednesday night, but may play against Barcelona next weekend instead.
