Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers really wants to keep Dredyck Boyata at Parkhead.

Dedryck Boyata of Celtic reacts during the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on December 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Brendan Rodgers has told the Daily Record that he had a long chat with Celtic’s Dedryck Boyata yesterday.

Boyata has recently returned to Celtic training, after representing Belgium at the World Cup.

The centre-back’s showings in Russia have increased the demand for his services, with Celtic now having a fight on their hands to keep hold of him.

Boyata has been linked with a range of clubs across Europe, but Rodgers has confirmed that he wants to keep Boyata at Parkhead.

He said: “It is great to have Dedryck back. He had an excellent World Cup and gained valuable experience.

“He looks fit and strong but of course just needs a bit of time.

“The talks have been on-going. I had a long chat with Dedryck yesterday and he is in a good place.”

Celtic's Dedryck Boyata speaks during a press conference for the Scottish team Celtic FC on September 26, 2017 in Brussels.

Boyata has just one year remaining on his current deal with Celtic, so this summer could be the last chance for the Bhoys to receive a fee for him, if they are unable to get the defender to commit his future.

Boyata looks likely to have a key role to play at Celtic this term, if he does stick around.

The former Manchester City man has played regularly under Rodgers, with the Celtic boss clearly a fan of the powerful centre-back.

Celtic’s next match comes against Rosenborg in the Champions League later this evening.
