Celtic had Patrick Roberts on loan from Manchester City last season.

Brendan Rodgers has admitted to the Glasgow Evening Times that Celtic are ‘hugely interested’ in signing Manchester City’s Patrick Roberts.

According to reports on BBC Sport, Celtic have taken a step closer to bringing Roberts back to Parkhead recently.

Roberts has reportedly told City that he wants to move back to Glasgow, after spending the last 18 months with the Bhoys.

And Rodgers will have sparked further excitement among Celtic fans, with his latest transfer update.

“Pat is a Manchester City player, he spent his pre-season there and if there are any developments to come out of City then we would be hugely interested in him,” Rodgers said.

“I have heard all the rumours, gossip and speculation about him but right now he is a Manchester City player and a fantastic player.

“Most of his pre-season has been there, he’s done well and, again, like our young players it’s about where the development is best suited. He is clearly a big talent and between now and the end of the market Patrick and Manchester City will decide where it is he can go, and the players will have big say in where is best for his development this coming season.

“He’s a big talent and, of course, if he is available and we can have him then we’d love to take him.”

HITC reported yesterday how Celtic fans had taken to Twitter to message Roberts to convince him to join.

Roberts is a huge fans’ favourite at Parkhead, due to his brilliant performances during his loan spell.

Roberts was a key source of creativity and goals for Celtic last term, and would immediately become one of the most feared attackers in Scotland if he was to complete a move back to the Bhoys.

Even without Roberts, Celtic have still started their season in excellent form and extended their unbeaten run in domestic competitions to 50 games by beating Kilmarnock 5-0 last night.
