Brendan Rodgers comments on Moussa Dembele’s Celtic future

Moussa Dembele is being linked with a move away from Celtic in the final days of the transfer window.

In comments broadcast by Sky Sports News (29/08 from 14:00), Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that there is interest in Moussa Dembele and that the Celtic striker’s representatives have been in Glasgow for talks, but insisted that there has been no official bid for the Frenchman and the Hoops do not want to lose him this summer.

Dembele’s future looks set to be a major talking point right until this week’s deadline. The Scottish Sun reports that Borussia Dortmund, Marseille and Lyon are all keen on signing the 22-year-old during the window, and it appears that his situation with the Scottish Premiership champions looks uncertain right now.

And Rodgers may not ease many Celtic fans’ fears with his comments on Dembele’s future as he suggested that discussions are ongoing before confirming that there is interest in the forward.

“A lot going on with Moussa at the moment. Moussa and his representatives were at the club today speaking with the club. Moussa’s not a player that we want to lose. He’s a phenomenal talent. He came in here a couple of years ago and he’s developed how we thought he would. He’s not going to be here forever – that was all part of his plan to come here,” he said in comments broadcast by Sky Sports News.

“But of course, it has to work both ways. We don’t want to be losing a top class player without having a replacement so it’s ongoing discussions really.

“No, there hasn’t been an official bid as far as I’m aware but there’s interest, yeah,” he added, when asked whether there has been a bid for Dembele.

It would be a huge blow for Celtic if they were to lose Dembele, especially as time is running out to potentially replace the former Fulham starlet.

The Hoops have a fantastic group of strikers and would arguably still be favourites to win the league even if Dembele did leave and Rodgers did not manage to get a new signing through the door. Nevertheless, it would undoubtedly be a situation that the Celtic boss would rather avoid this month.
