Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers have failed to bring back former Gers midfielder Derek McInnes, and Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers gives his take.

Manager of Celtic Brendan Rodgers looks on during the Betfred Cup Semi-Final at Hampden Park on October 21, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has given his take on Derek McInnes’s decision to turn down Rangers, as quoted by The Scotsman.

Rangers wanted to bring back former Gers midfielder McInnes to Ibrox as their manager, but the 46-year-old decided to remain in charge of Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen.

The former Scotland international has been the manager of the Dons since 2013 and has been hugely successful in the role so far.

Aberdeen have established themselves as the second-best team in Scotland over the past few years and finished above Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table last season.

Celtic manager Rodgers, who has been in the role since the summer of 2016, has given his take on McInnes’s decision not to swap Aberdeen for Rangers.

Celtic's head coach Brendan Rodgers talks during a press conference in Brussels on September 26, 2017 on the eve of the Champions League group B) football match against RSC Anderlecht.

Rodgers told The Scotsman: “I’ve now had five jobs as a manager. When you have that experience, you tend to look at it differently.

“You’ve been on that journey to get to the big club. From that, you can make other decisions around your next move.

“There has to be a strategic element to it and. of course, there will always be the personal element to it but what I think you can’t discard – and maybe that’s what Derek has thought about – is happiness.”

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is seen during the William Hill Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on May 27, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

McInnes seems settled at Aberdeen, and one should respect his decision not to return to his former club Rangers in a managerial role.

This means that the Ibrox outfit will now have to look at other potential candidates as permanent successors to Pedro Caixinha.
