Swansea City reportedly want Youssouf Mulumbu, but the midfielder seems to be on his way to Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic in the summer transfer window.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has told BBC Sport that he is close to the signing of Youssouf Mulumbu, despite reported interest from Swansea City.

Earlier this week, The Scottish Sun claimed of interest in Mulumbu from Swansea, who are playing in the Championship this season after getting relegated from the Premier League.

The report stated that the 31-year-old former West Bromwich Albion midfielder, who left Kilmarnock at the end of last season, had held positive discussions with the Swans.

Celtic boss Rodgers, though, has stated that the DR Congo international is set to move to the Glasgow giants in the summer transfer window, meaning that his former club Swansea will miss out.

Rodgers was in charge of the Swans from 2010 until 2012 before moving to Liverpool.

“We were always on the lookout for a really aggressive number eight to play midfield,” Rodgers told BBC Sport.

“Youssouf was exceptional last year, he was very keen to come and play at a huge club and fits the profile and has the experience of being up here. All being well, it’ll be a really good move for us.”

Good signing for Celtic

Mulumbu played well for Kilmarnock last season, and the hugely experienced midfielder would be a very good signing for Celtic.

The Glasgow giants need depth in their squad this season, especially as they have progressed to the group stage of the Champions League, and a player of Mulumbu’s quality is going to make the Hoops a better team during the 2018-19 campaign.
