Manchester United’s Scott McTominay has been linked with a move to Celtic.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has told Sky Sports that he thinks rumoured target Scott McTominay is a ‘fantastic talent’, but wouldn’t confirm a deal is being pursued.
The Bhoys have already snapped up three new signings this month, bringing in Oliver Burke and Timothy Weah on loan before landing Vakoun Issouf Bayo permanently.
With three attacking players signed up, Celtic may now look to bring in new faces in other areas, with American full backs Manny Perez and Andrew Gutman linked.
Another holding midfielder may yet be wanted, with Eboue Kouassi out until the end of the season and Scott Brown noticeably slowing down of late.
The Daily Record claimed last night that Celtic want to take Manchester United talent McTominay on loan, but he’s a little unsure about the move due to Celtic’s existing midfield options.
McTominay, 22, has made just eight appearances this season having burst onto the scene under Jose Mourinho last term, and already has five Scotland caps to his name.
The 6ft 4in midfielder does need first-team football though, and a loan move before the end of the move could materialise, with Celtic keen.
Sky Sports report that Celtic may need to offload players first, with Scott Allan a candidate to go having signed a pre-contract agreement with Hibernian, whilst Lewis Morgan could head out on loan too.
Rodgers refused to confirm that a deal is being discussed, but did praise McTominay as a ‘fantastic talent’ and a ‘very good player’, feeling that he has shown that already at United.
“There’s lots of speculation around players, so I wouldn’t comment,” said Rodgers. “He’s a very good young player. When he broke into the team at Manchester United, I think he showed that. He’s a fantastic talent, but there’s nothing more to say,” he added.
