Eboue Kouassi is unlikely to play for Celtic again this season.

Paris Saint-Germain's Brazilian defender Dani Alves (L) fights for the ball with Celtic's midfielder Kouassi Eboue during the UEFA Champions League Group B football match between Paris...

Speaking to The Record, Brendan Rodgers has insisted that injury-hit midfielder Eboue Kouassi still has a role to play at Celtic.

The 21-year-old hasn’t kicked a ball for Celtic since October after suffering a knee injury, resulting in him being ruled out for the rest of the season.

Even before that there were doubts about the Ivorian’s long-term future at Parkhead following a £3 million [The Scottish Sun] move to Glasgow two years ago, with The Scottish Sun claiming in June he would leave Scotland.

Kouassi had started only three games across all competitions prior to his injury, but the Northern Irish manager is adamant that his big-money signing can come back stronger.

He told The Record: “I’ve seen him enough times to know he has the qualities. He’s like any player in that he needs regular games. It’s just that he has been unfortunate.

“He has good ability and hopefully can come back strongly from injury and show he has a big part to play.

“Eboue can play here though. That’s the reason such a young player cost a couple of million Euros. He has a talent and in the Europa League games played well.”

It’s a very big shout by Rodgers to suggest that Kouassi has a part to play.

He might very well be a talent, but Celtic have an abundance of talented midfielders and the reality is that if he didn’t get a look-in when he was fit, which he didn’t, then it’s ever so hard to see him breaking into Rodgers’s best XI next season.

Eboue Kouassi of Celtic arrives at the stadium prior to the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on April 29, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.
