Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Daniel Arzani may well be a target for the club amid strong rumours on Wednesday.

The Bhoys were in Champions League action on Wednesday night, as they took on Norwegian champions Rosenborg in the first leg of their qualifying clash at Celtic Park.

Left back Birger Meling gave the visitors a surprise lead, but two Odsonne Edouard goals – with an Olivier Ntcham strike sandwiched in between – handed Celtic a 3-1 victory.

Celtic are now in a strong position to advance to the next round of the Champions League qualifiers, and manager Rodgers will be keen to land reinforcements in the coming weeks.

On Wednesday, the Daily Mail reported that Manchester City are set to sign Melbourne City winger Daniel Arzani, and will immediately loan him out to Celtic once his £280,000 move is completed.

Arzani, 19, has become one of the top young talents in Australia and even played for his country at the World Cup in Russia this summer, and a move to City is no great surprise given that Melbourne City are a sister club of Pep Guardiola’s side.

The teenager could fill the void left by another City loanee in Patrick Roberts, and Bhoys manager Rodgers discussed the situation after the full-time whistle against Rosenborg.

Rodgers has told the Daily Mail that he can’t tell any big news about Arzani, but admitted that he is a very talented player and looked impressive at the World Cup, before hinting that Arzani has been targeted for a move by Celtic.

“I can’t tell you anything about him or anyone else,” said Rodgers. “I was asked before the game on that. All I know is he is a young Australian, a very talented player and went to the World Cup where he looked very, very good.”

“The club are working hard behind the scenes to try and get some signings in. I think he’s been one that has been identified,” he added.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is seen prior to the UEFA Champions League Qualifier between Celtic and Alashkert FC at Celtic Park on July 18, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.
