Would Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers have been a good candidate for Arsenal?

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed to The Glasgow Evening Times that he did not take any notice of talks linking him with Arsenal.

As announced on Celtic’s official website on Friday afternoon, Rodgers has signed a new four-year deal which will see him remain in charge of the first team until June 2021.

The former Liverpool and Swansea City manager was initially appointed in his current role at the Bhoys in the summer of 2016.

Earlier this month, former Celtic and Arsenal forward Charlie Nicholas told Sky Sports that Rodgers should be in contention to success Arsene Wenger at the Gunners if the Frenchman decides to leave the Emirates Stadium in the summer.

Ex-Arsenal star Ray Parlour was quoted as saying by The Sun back in February that the 44-year-old would be a good candidate to succeed Wenger at the North London outfit.

Rodgers has revealed that he did not take any notice of those talks, and has made it clear that he is now fully focused on Celtic.

“I didn’t really take any notice of that,” Rodgers told The Glasgow Evening Times about Arsenal talks. “It is nice when guys like Charlie [Nicholas], who has been down there a long time, and Ray Parlour and whoever else say things like that.

“I’ve got experience of working at a big club so maybe that can have an influence. I went close with Liverpool with a team at the time which was eighth in the league. So I have got experience of a big club but I am happy to be at this club now.”
