Brendan Rodgers claims James Forrest has a simple job, but he has been absolutely brilliant

Celtic winger James Forrest has been praised by manager Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has told the club’s official website that he thinks James Forrest’s job with Celtic is ‘very simple’, but he has been ‘absolutely brilliant’.

The Bhoys hammered Dundee 4-0 in the Scottish League Cup on Wednesday night, with James Forrest hitting a brace whilst Scott Sinclair and Callum McGregor also found the back of the net.

As Celtic prepare for this weekend’s Old Firm clash against Rangers, a host of players have been praised for their strong performances, and Forrest is the latest.

The 26-year-old wide man has come up through the ranks with Celtic since joining in 2002, and has now racked up nearly 250 appearances for the Bhoys.

Forrest had struggled to hit top form for Celtic having endured injury after injury under a host of managers, but he starred in his first season under Brendan Rodgers last term, scoring eight goals – his second best goal return in a season – and a career-high 14 assists.

The Scotland international has already hit seven goals this term, including his brace against Dundee on Wednesday, and he has earned praise from manager Rodgers.

Rodgers has told the club’s official website that he placed Forrest on an individual training programme to play in the Celtic side, but his job is very simple – and he has been ‘absolutely brilliant’.

Rodgers added that Forrest is a joy to work with and scored important goals this term, playing outstandingly in recent months as his Celtic career goes from strength to strength.

“I think the key for James has been to have an individual training programme that allows him to train how you want him to play and he’s been able to take that consistency on the training field into the games,” said Rodgers. “His job is very simple. When he has the ball he has to create and score goals and he’s done that consistently.”

“James is a joy to work with. He’s been absolutely brilliant for us, stood in for us over the course of the summer in the Champions League campaign where he played and got some really important goals. He’s been outstanding for me,” he added.
