Tottenham Hotspur are having quite the week, aren’t they?

On Sunday, Spurs announced their intention to join the controversial breakaway Super League, joining five of their Premier League rivals in the plans.

Well, that’s already over; Spurs have announced that they’re leaving the Super League proposal, joining the exodus of Premier League sides.

It’s somewhat remarkable that Tottenham sacking Jose Mourinho on Monday hasn’t even been the biggest story surrounding the club this week.

Mourinho has lost his job after a poor run of form, and Ryan Mason has now been handed the job on an interim basis until the summer.

So who’s next? Well, the Daily Mail claim that Tottenham like Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers, and he knows that Spurs want him.

However, Rodgers isn’t keen on the job, believing that he wouldn’t have the same control at Spurs as he currently has with Leicester.

The Northern Irishman has fared well in just over two years at the King Power Stadium, and it’s no great shock that the former Celtic boss is now attracting major interest.

Rodgers has now commented on the Spurs job. As quoted by talkSPORT, he admitted that Spurs is a ‘fantastic’ and ‘huge club’, but he is fully focused on Leicester.

Celtic fans would – maybe cynically – point out that he said similar before leaving for Leicester in 2019, but it sounds like Rodgers isn’t angling for a move to North London any time soon.

“It’s football, there is always speculation around, every job which comes up there will always be different managers speculated to go in,” said Rodgers. “Tottenham is a fantastic club, it’s a huge club but my focus is here. I’m at a world-class training facility, the project we’re in here we still want to develop and have a lot of work to do.”

“I have a great connection with the players, the board and we have plans to keep progressing. While I have the energy, the happiness and see that challenge continuing I’m very happy to be here. You can’t stop gossip but I don’t think about it,” he added.
