Hibernian fully deserved their victory over Celtic yesterday.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers spoke to reporters after his side’s 2-0 defeat to Hibernian at Easter Road yesterday, and blamed the system that he employed for the poor result, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
The Hoops now sit in third position in the Scottish Premiership table, one point adrift of league leaders and bitter rivals Rangers, although they do have a game in hand over Steven Gerrard’s side.
Rodgers’ men seem to be nowhere near the levels they reached last season, and Celtic’s recent from will be a real concern for the Northern Irishman.
The Glasgow giants are aiming to win their eighth consecutive league title this season, and they will have to make real improvements, if they are to do just that.
Rodgers was forced to play a back three yesterday because of a lack of options, and his system was exposed by Hibs.
When speaking to reporters, Rodgers blamed the unfamiliar system for his side’s defeat, as quoted by the Daily Mail:
“The formation may well have had an effect. But I don’t think it had anything to do with the goals. If we need someone to blame then blame the system – but that was the system because of the players we had available. We had to manufacture a way which we thought could get us a result. It’s not what we’ve been for a few months, but we don’t have the same players available.”
Next up for Celtic is a home game against Motherwell on Wednesday night, and Rodgers will be desperate for his side to bounce back from their defeat yesterday.
The Hoops face four games in a 10 day period, so Rodgers will have to fully utilise his squad over the next couple of weeks.
