Brendan Rodgers has managed Newcastle ace before.

Rafa Benitez’s side are struggling for form while Rodgers is experiencing his most testing season in Scotland so far.
One intriguing angle to a potential Rodgers switch to Newcastle is a reunion with midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.
Rodgers managed Shelvey at Liverpool, who was signed by Rafa Benitez during his time at Anfield.
Rodgers actually sold Shelvey from Liverpool, admitting he could not give the midfielder the game time he needed.

In an interview reported by the Chronicle two years ago, Rodgers hailed Shelvey as a ‘wonderful technician’ and had high praise for the midfielder.
He backed him to be a success at Newcastle, commenting after his switch from Swansea City.
Rodgers said: “When he left Liverpool I felt he needed to go to play because there was so many players ahead of him. He was a young player and he wanted to play so Swansea have been great for him.
“He’s done well for Swansea. He’s gone on to Newcastle now where there’s expectancy again, but he’s a top talent. If he can just gain that maturity he’s got all the tools to really sustain it and do really well there.”
Shelvey has had a very mixed season so far, making six appearances with no goals and no assists.
He needs to improve, and if Brendan Rodgers does come in, a fresh approach who knows him and rates him highly could turn out to be just what he needs.
