Brendan Rodgers has stated that he was ‘never going to be bitter’ about leaving Liverpool as he stated that he was ‘especially happy’ for James Milner and Jordan Henderson winning the European Cup.
Jurgen Klopp guided the Reds to Champions League glory last season when they lifted their sixth European crown, as they now bid to win the Premier League title.
Rodgers came very close to ending Liverpool’s title drought during his time at the club, and with his former team winning all their league games so far this season, he will be looking to stop them in their tracks when his high-flying Leicester side travel to Anfield on Saturday.
Ahead of that mouthwatering weekend game, Rodgers told Jamie Carragher that he was pleased to see Liverpool win the Champions League last season, as he praised Henderson and his development.
“I am the type of person who is happy for the club and especially happy for players like Jordan Henderson and James Milner,” Rodgers told The Telegraph. “Players I worked with and had a strong relationship with.
“I was so happy for Jordan when he lifted the Champions League trophy because I know how much he has developed and worked for it. I was never going to be bitter. That’s why I let Jurgen move into my house.”
The Reds were in Champions League action on Wednesday night, where they survived a scare against Salzburg, who came from 3-0 down to draw level before Mo Salah ensured all the points were in the bag for his team.
But now the challenge will get tougher for Liverpool because Rodgers side are currently sitting third in the league with many tipping them for a European finish.
They beat Tottenham not so long ago and they will be hoping to use their recent form to end Liverpool’s 100% start to the new Premier League season.
