Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths netted seven goals in his first nine appearances this season.
Brendan Rodgers has admitted to the Glasgow Evening Times that Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has been unlucky.
Griffiths finished last season as Celtic’s top scorer, and he began the new campaign in a similarly rich vein of form.
The Scotland international netted seven goals in his first nine appearances, before picking up an injury.
And in his absence, Moussa Dembele has fully established himself as Celtic’s main striker.
Dembele has scored seven goals in his last six appearances, and Rodgers admits that Griffiths faces an uphill task to break back into his first-team.
“There is a way of working that I work and I have to make the team work and unfortunately some players will miss out at different times,” Rodgers said.
“Leigh was unfortunate when he got injured. He was playing, he was scoring goals now he is out of the team and Moussa is playing. But we will need everyone.”
Dembele appears to have found his feet at Celtic, after arriving from Fulham in the summer transfer window.
The French striker’s run of goals has included a hat-trick against Rangers, and a brace against Manchester City in the Champions League.
Celtic’s next match comes against Dundee, and if Rodgers’ men can pick up a victory, they will make their position at the top of the Scottish Premiership look even more secure.
