Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths appears to be set for a run of starts with Moussa Dembele out injured.
Brendan Rodgers has told the Daily Record that Leigh Griffiths has the quality required to cover for Celtic striker Moussa Dembele.
Dembele has picked up a hamstring injury, which could keep him out for the remainder of the campaign.
But Rodgers is not unduly concerned about losing his top scorer, as he believes Griffiths has all the ability needed to step up.
“He came on against Rangers and made a really good impact on the game,” Rodgers said.
“I’m fortunate that I have two really good strikers I’m happy to stick in and play.
“With Moussa being out it’ll give Leigh the chance to come in.
“When he’s on the pitch for a length of time it always looks like he’s going to score. He’s a real threat. From 25 metres in he’s top class.”
Griffiths has arguably been Celtic’s most unfortunate player since Rodgers took charge, as he has lot his place in the Bhoys’ first-team.
Griffiths slammed in over 40 goals last season, but the form of Dembele has forced him out of Rodgers’ starting line-up.
As a result, Griffiths has generally been utilised as a substitute this season – but he could be in line for a run of starts now.
Griffiths helped Celtic pick up a 2-0 win over Rangers last weekend, and will be looking to make a similar impact in the Old-Firm derby due to take place on Saturday.
