Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has told to the Scotsman that he may have to drop Ryan Christie soon.

Christie has been the surprise package of Celtic’s season, with the midfielder coming out of nowhere to explode on to the scene at Parkhead.

Christie had shown promise on loan spells in recent years, but few were predicting the attacking midfielder to make such an impact at Celtic this term.

However, the Scotland international has arguably been the Bhoys’ best player in recent weeks.

Christie has looked perfectly at home in Celtic’s starting line-up, and he scored again in Rodgers’ side’s 5-1 win over Kilmarnock yesterday.

The 23-year-old looks to be full of confidence right now, but Rodgers is eager not to risk burning the youngster out.

“He’s played so many games and you do think there might be a point where you need to take him out,” he said. “But he’s just enjoying it so much and deserves a huge amount of credit for his talent and mentality.

Ryan Christie of Celtic celebrates after scoring his team's first goal during the Betfred Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on December 2, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“In this run, he’s shown he is a top-class operator. He hasn’t just done it domestically in the league and finals, he’s also done it in Europe.

“Ryan was outstanding against a top-class Leipzig team and his Scotland appearances have added to his confidence.”

Celtic’s next match comes in the Europa League against Red Bull Salzburg, and Rodgers surely won’t risk not starting Christie in a game of such magnitude.
