Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers only signed Jack Hendry in January.

Brendan Rodgers has admitted to the Sunday Post that Celtic defender Jack Hendry has a lot of improving to do.

Hendry only arrived at Celtic in January, and he played fairly frequently towards the back end of last term.

However, there are fears that he could struggle for game time over the coming campaign, as Rodgers appears to have plenty of central defensive options ahead of him.

And Rodgers admits that Hendry still has a lot of work to do until he becomes the finished article.

The Celtic boss said: “We’ll not get too carried away. He has a lot of work to do still, but what he has is potential.

“He’s a young guy who has made great strides in a short period of time in his career.

“He has potential, but there is still a lot of work for him to do in both defensive and offensive situations.”

Hendry has played in both of Celtic’s Champions League qualifiers so far this season, but his place could come under threat soon.

Dedryck Boyata is due to return from the World Cup, and looks likely to start for Celtic next campaign.

Kristoffer Ajer has also made the centre-back spot at Parkhead his own, after some excellent performances.

Celtic are next in action against Rosenborg, in what looks like a much sterner test than they have had so far.
