The Blues secured a 1-0 win in their first game of pre-season.
Bournemouth’s Matt Ritchie and Everton’s Brendan Galloway
Brendan Galloway has praised Everton’s performance in the win over FK Jablonec to the club’s official Twitter account.
The Blues are currently working on their fitness in pre-season ahead of the start of the Premier League campaign.
Saturday afternoon saw them play their first game of that regime as they played in a training game against FK Jablonec.
New manager Ronald Koeman during the press conference
It proved to be a good run out for them too as Galloway’s solitary goal sealed a 1-0 victory in Ronald Koeman’s first game in charge.
This early in the summer the focus is solely on fitness rather than performance, but Galloway says he thought they kept the ball well regardless.
“They were really quick and strong and they gave us a good test,” he told the club’s Twitter account.
“It was key for us to keep the ball because it’s our first game and he didn’t want to blow up too quick and I think we did that quite well.”
Everton manager Roberto Martinez
It will certainly be interesting to see if Ronald Koeman focuses on improving Everton’s fitness this summer.
It was one aspect of the squad that was often criticised under Roberto Martinez, with their tendency to concede late goals often attributed to a lack of fitness.
It was one of several flaws under the Spaniard and should Koeman be able to fix it, it will likely go a long way to improving on the last two seasons.
