Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luke Amos enjoyed an excellent pre-season where he really put himself in contention for first team appearances this season.
Amos starred against the like of Roma and Barcelona, taking advantage of injuries and teammates on international duty to seize his chance.
There was even talk from manager Mauricio Pochettino that Amos could start the first game of the season against Newcastle.
Amos was on the bench instead, coming on for the final minute to make his debut.
That was a big achievement, but last weekend at Wembley, Amos was brought back to reality.
He did not even make the bench, with midfielder Harry Winks taking the spot after his return from injury.
Victor Wanyama is also due to come back from injury soon, and Heung-Min Son from international duty, making it even tougher for Amos just to land a spot in the match day 18.
It would be a big surprise if Amos was in contention to feature at Old Trafford on Monday evening in any way.
Amos now faces a big few days to decide what is best for his season.
Does he push for a loan move, and try and build on his pre-season efforts by playing regularly for a Championship side?
The alternative is to stick around, and hope he gets a Carabao Cup chance, and a few other scraps, minutes here and there, at best.
Amos has made big progress simply to be in the conversation for first team chances, but his next decision is crucial.
