Some Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter are reacting to hearing that Toby Alderweireld has now reportedly asked permission to be sold this summer.
According to The Athletic, the Belgium international, who was eliminated from Euro 2020 last night, is keen to leave North London before next season.
At 32, Alderweireld is still comfortably Tottenham’s best defender but it looks like the former Ajax centre-back has designs on plying his trade elsewhere.
The Athletic added the player would be interested in a return to Royal Antwerp, where he began his playing career.
The Belgian has been a popular player among Spurs fans since his arrival six years ago and here’s how some supporters reacted on Twitter:
Detrimental
It was widely reported back in May that Harry Kane had decided to tell Tottenham that he wanted to leave, too.
And if the Lilywhites lose both, it could be detrimental.
We’re talking about Spurs’ best players at either end of the field and Nuno Espirito Santo, along with Fabio Paratici, won’t have an easy job replacing them.
Okay, it’s much easier to replace Alderweireld than Kane, because the former isn’t among the world’s finest centre-backs and Kane is arguably the world’s best number nine.
Losing the 27-year-old would be bad enough, but if Alderweireld follows him it’ll be a double blow.
