If Liverpool want to sign a confident Brazilian wonderkid this summer then Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards need look no further than Gabriel Menino.
The 20-year-old Palmeiras wonderkid has revealed that he could probably play for the Reds, in addition to a number of other European giants.
Menino, who could win the Copa Liberatadores tonight, has told Portuguese outlet A Bola that his style is suited for the likes of Liverpool, Barcelona and Manchester City.
He said: “I think my football today fits in Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, maybe even Manchester City. They are all teams with very strong players, with a quick touch of the ball, they like to attack and defend in blocks.”
Fans of the Anfield club might not have heard about him yet, but they may well do so after tonight.
If Menino starts the final against Santos and has a stormer then it’ll only result in more stock and speculation about a move to Europe this summer is pretty inevitable.
His main position is central midfield and it just so happens that Liverpool might need a player for this role.
That’s because Gini Wijnaldum is out of contract on Merseyside in June, Jordan Henderson turns 31 in the same month and for all of Thiago Alcantara’s majesty, he’s a tad injury prone.
This really might be an area that Klopp and Edwards look to strengthen in the summer and don’t be surprised if there’s rumours about Menino, especially on the back of these comments.
