Brazilian star Endrick has opened up on the challenges he has faced since joining Real Madrid and explained why he is not leaving the Spanish giants permanently, despite a recent loan move to Olympique Lyonnais.
The 19-year-old forward, one of world football’s most promising young players, reflected on his rapid rise and the advice he has received from senior figures in the game.
Endrick joined Real Madrid in July 2024 on a long-term contract after a standout spell with Palmeiras and quickly impressed by scoring on his debut in every competition.

Endrick on early success and learning from legends
However, he has struggled for playing time under manager Xabi Alonso this season, which led to his six-month loan to Lyon as he seeks regular minutes and continued development ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
“I arrived just after turning 18, and I scored on my debut in every tournament. Many things happened faster than many expected.
“I understand that people wanted me to play more, but I realise that it won’t always happen that quickly,” Endrick said, summarising his whirlwind first year at the Bernabeu.
He added, “I spoke to Xabi Alonso about a lot of things. He won a lot of titles, he was a world champion. He has a lot to teach and a lot to contribute.”
Endrick also explained what he has learned from mentors like Alonso, saying, “I want people like him to always help me. I also want to be a world champion with the national team, like he was with Spain.”
The comments highlight both his gratitude toward his coaches and his understanding that development at a major club like Real takes time.
Despite high expectations, Endrick’s path has included injuries and limited opportunities under a new manager, making the loan to Lyon a strategic step rather than a sign of discontent.
Advice from Carlo Ancelotti and Xabi Alonso on loan move
Endrick also shared the guidance he received regarding his loan spell, saying, “Ancelotti and Xabi both advised me to look for playing time after recovering from my injury.
“They are two champions with winning careers. They’ve been through it all: victories, defeats, injuries, titles. You have to listen to the advice of people like them.”
“Leaving the biggest club in the world, where everyone dreams of playing, would be difficult for anyone, but I’m not leaving. It’s just a pause,” he added, underlining that the loan deal to Lyon is intended as a temporary step for his growth rather than a permanent departure.
Endrick’s comments reflect a mature understanding of his career trajectory, acknowledging that setbacks and strategic moves are part of professional development at the highest level.
With Lyon providing the platform for more regular football, the Brazilian is focused on improving his game and proving himself worthy of a return to Real Madrid and continued success with Brazil on the international stage.
