Brazil’s 2026 FIFA World Cup journey was cut abruptly during the Round of 16.
The five-time World Cup champions faced off against Norway in the knockouts. Most expected them to advance to the next round, but Erling Haaland had other plans.
Haaland scored a brace in a 2-1 win over Brazil. However, it’s safe to say Brazil were utterly outplayed by Norway, and they failed to convert multiple chances, including an early penalty kick.
The player who missed the penalty was midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, and the 28-year-old is now once again in the headlines.

Bruno Guimaraes has informed Newcastle United that he wants to join Arsenal
Just days after Brazil’s World Cup elimination, Guimaraes is already focused on his club career. According to David Ornstein, Guimaraes wants to secure a move to Arsenal.
“Bruno Guimaraes informs Newcastle United of wish to leave & join Arsenal. AFC stepping up pursuit – ready to offer deal worth up to £60m at present but no club-to-club contact yet + NUFC stance still not entertaining bids for 28yo,” Ornstein reported on X.
The Brazilian had a breakout year with United, registering 9 goals and 6 assists for the team. He now wants to secure a high-profile move to the defending champions of the Premier League, Arsenal.
As Ornstein reported, Arsenal are interested in the 28-year-old, but United remain unconvinced with their current offer.
