Andy Robertson has claimed that West Ham United were ‘brave’ in leaving four men up top against Liverpool on Saturday, as he told Sky Sports Premier League.
West Ham suffered a 1-0 defeat at Anfield and Robertson praised West Ham for the attacking intent they should on the break.
Even though Sadio Mane was the only player to get on the scoresheet, David Moyes will still be wondering how his team didn’t find the back of the net.
Given the space Liverpool’s flying fullbacks leave in behind, added with their want to always play offside, that was exploited by the Hammers, but not enough to score.
Nonetheless, Robertson praised the London club for what they brought to the table and added that they are doing a ‘pretty good job’ of trying to secure European football again this season.
On West Ham making it tough: “They are fighting for their own goals,” said Robertson.
“They are trying to get into European football again and they are doing a pretty good job of it.
“They have four attackers up that make it difficult on the counter-attack. Of course, we had most of the possession. But when we lost it, they were in good positions to hit us on the counter.
“I think they were brave. Not many teams leave four up, but I thought we managed it pretty well.”
The next stop for West Ham is an all-important trip to Seville because they take on Sevilla in the first leg of their Europa League knockout tie.
It’s looking unlikely that Champions League football will be secured this season via the Premier League for Moyes and his players.
But if they can see past one of the favourites in Sevilla, then many will be backing them to win the Europa League outright and that then will bring Champions League football.
After years of struggle, West Ham are going through a very strong period and they will want to add a trophy to that.
