The Les Ferdinand-esque Dominic Calvert-Lewin can fire Everton into the Champions League if he maintains his stunning form in front of goal, former England international Trevor Sinclair told talkSPORT (27 November, 9.50am).
As Sinclair himself points out, this has been coming for some time.
Calvert-Lewin spent the 2019/20 season quietly honing his talents at Goodison Park, transitioning from a versatile, hard-working channel runner into a prowling, penalty-area predator after Carlo Ancelotti replaced Marco Silva on Merseyside.
The former Sheffield United youngster has now added a much-needed ruthless streak to his speed, strength and commendable work-rate, taking his personal tally to 13 goals in 11 games with a brace in last week’s 3-2 win at Fulham.
According to Sinclair, there are a few similarities between Calvert-Lewin and one of the most feared strikers in Premier League history – Newcastle and Tottenham legend Les Ferdinand.
“He reminds me of Les. He really is a fantastic athlete,” Sinclair said of an old-school number nine who has benefitted immensely from sharing a training pitch with Everton icon Duncan Ferguson.

“Duncan will help him with his movement. He’s as brave as a lion as he’s scoring goals. I think Ancelotti has been really impressed.
“I think this has been coming. He’s been improving year on year and, if he stays fit, he can fire Everton into the top four.”
Calvert-Lewin has certainly benefitted from the creativity and cutting edge provided by James Rodriguez, Seamus Coleman and Richarlison.
The England international has also combined brilliantly with Lucas Digne, the swashbuckling left-back and arguably the best crosser of a ball in English football.
Imagine Calvert-Lewin’s disappointment, then, when he learned that Digne could be set for two months on the sidelines with injury.
