According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Everton are interested in signing Lazio playmaker Luis Alberto, while Inter Milan and Juventus are also keen.
The former Liverpool midfielder – who left Anfield for Italy in a £4.3 million deal – recently landed himself in hot water with the Serie A outfit after hitting out at the club on social media.
Alberto accused the hierarchy of buying a plane without paying the Lazio squad’s salaries, although he later deleted the post as Gazzetta dello Sport revealed.
Regardless of that, Marcel Brands shouldn’t pursue a move for the Spaniard simply because Everton do not need him having signed James Rodriguez.
Admittedly, the 28-year-old has been more creative than the Colombian this season with 2.7 key passes per game in Serie A, whereas Rodriguez records 2.3 in the Premier League as WhoScored shows.
However, Carlo Ancelotti has predominantly set up with a 4-3-3 formation this term, using the system seven times in the Premier League according to WhoScored.
That formation doesn’t really accommodate any more creative players.
Richarlison and Rodriguez fulfil that duty ahead of a solid midfield base containing Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin finishing chances off up top.
There’s no denying that Alberto is a fine player.
However, it would be a waste of Brands’ time, and the Toffees’ transfer budget, if he was brought to Goodison Park.
