Brandon Williams may just have donned the Manchester United kit for the final time this season as he edges closer to joining Norwich City.

Numerous reports, including from The Athletic, state that Williams will officially sign for the Canaries sometime this week.

The 20-year-old has been teetering towards an exit from Old Trafford for about a month, as he searches for more first-team opportunities.

He featured heavily throughout pre-season, but only because first-choice left-back Luke Shaw was recuperating following his European Championship adventures.

Williams also received a boost after Alex Telles suffered an injury in training, ruling him out for a sustained period.

This certainly propelled the young Englishman up United’s food chain.

However, it appears being second fiddle simply isn’t enough for the aspiring young player.

Waving goodbye to Williams

If the versatile defender is to set sail for Norwich, his final Red Devils appearance for the campaign has already happened.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team hosted a behind closed doors friendly against Burnley today, with Williams in line to feature alongside several other senior members.

It’s certainly not the farewell the full-back would have dreamt of, but at least he was able to pull on the fabled red jersey for one last occasion.

Swapping it for the fabled yellow and green shirt should be a step in the right direction for his career.

Daniel Farke’s side combines a nice blend of youthful experience and experienced campaigners, who play an attractive brand of football.

Williams would provide healthy competition to Max Aarons and Dimitris Giannoulis.

What stands to favour the United academy product is that he can play on both flanks pretty comfortably, which places extra pressure on both Aarons and Giannoulis to perform.

Solskjaer might just want to delay the deal slightly, only to find out the extent of Telles’ issues.

Diogo Dalot does offer decent cover, another who could play in the closed-off fixture versus Burnley.
