There’s plenty of attention on Scottie Scheffler, but it’s worth remembering that Jordan Spieth will also be just one win away from a Career Grand Slam in 2026.

It’s been a long wait for Spieth, who has needed only the PGA Championship to complete his Grand Slam since 2017. Few would have predicted after his win at Royal Birkdale that he’d still be waiting for another major title heading into 2026. He hasn’t won on the PGA Tour since 2022, either.

The wrist issue had been bothering him for a while, and it wasn’t until late in 2024 that he opted for surgery. There was hope that the procedure would help him get back to form, but his play since then has only shown flashes of what he used to be capable of.

He did manage a pair of fourth-place finishes in 2025, but those were the highlights in a year where he struggled to string together consistent results. Spieth managed just one top-10 finish in a signature event, and his best showing at a major was tied for 14th at The Masters.

Even so, Brandel Chamblee has taken to social media to insist that there is plenty for Spieth to be optimistic about heading into 2026.

Spieth’s 2025 strokes gained data suggests a positive direction

It’s worth noting that Spieth wasn’t on the level of his early career form, where he seemed destined to break every record in the book. But there’s a case to be made that 2025 showed some positive steps forward.

Spieth ranked inside the top 70 in all strokes gained categories, which is a significant improvement from previous years.

He was especially poor in 2024, ranking 138th in approach play and just outside the top 100 in putting. So even if his results didn’t stand out, there were signs of progress in key areas of his game.

With no starts during the Fall Series, Spieth will depend on sponsor exemptions for this year’s signature events. But if he can build on last season’s improvements, there’s reason to think he could remind everyone why he became such a big name to begin with.
