Liverpool have reportedly turned their attention toward an Everton target.

Despite signing Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus on deadline day earlier in September, the Reds still need to bolster their midfield options long term, with Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both injured and out of contract in 2023.

Neither seem to have much future at Anfield and Calciomercato reported on Saturday that Ibrahim Sangare of PSV Eindhoven is now a target, and the player ‘likes’ Liverpool.

And it’ll be interesting if he does wind up on the red half of Merseyside after seemingly rejecting a transfer to Everton.

At least, that’s the view of Kiki Musampa, who revealed this past summer that the Ivory Coast international wasn’t convinced by the prospect of joining the Toffees due to the prospect of being relegated.

He told ESPN via HITC Sport at the time: “Everton also wanted him but he also had his doubts about that. Those are clubs that are not safe in the Premier League. The danger of relegation is great.”

How it would hurt the Blues if one of their former targets were to join their bitter Merseyside rivals.

You have to be honest though, Liverpool is a much bigger draw and his rationale for snubbing Everton was justified.

Frank Lampard kept them in the Premier League by the skin of their teeth last season and this time around they’re one of only two outfits – along with Leicester City – yet to win any of their first six games.

It doesn’t look like Everton will be that much better during the 2022-23 campaign as things stand.
