Newcastle United lost 1-0 away at Blackburn Rovers on Monday afternoon.

Newcastle United lost for the second time in three games on Monday afternoon, as they were beaten 1-0 away at Blackburn Rovers.

The Magpies lost at home to Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day before hitting back with a 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest at St. James’ Park on Friday evening.

Newcastle travelled to Ewood Park to take on Blackburn Rovers on Monday afternoon, and were looking for revenge having lost 1-0 at home to Owen Coyle’s side last month.

Newcastle completely dominated the game, as they had 67% of possession and 25 shots on goal, but only five shots on target – and they were made to pay for their profligacy.

Charlie Mulgrew, who hit the winning goal for Blackrbun against Newcastle in December, scored the winner again on Monday, curling a free kick beyond Karl Darlow and into the net to claim all three points.

With Brighton now top of the Championship table, Newcastle endured a miserable afternoon in Lancashire – and defender Jamaal Lascelles was one player who received heavy criticism during and after the game.

The Newcastle skipper, 23, has been a regular for the Magpies, but he endured a difficult afternoon against Blackburn, with fans on Twitter criticising him for his indecision in the back four.

Some even compared Lascelles to former defensive flop Titus Bramble, and with some suggesting that he simply isn’t good enough right now, there are calls for Benitez to give Lascelles a rest.

Here are some of the reactions on Twitter from Newcastle fans after Lascelles’ performance against Blackburn…
